PRIMUS provides our Unix vhost customers with emailed web reports. These reports are generated based on the information contained in a very simple file called .vconf. By default, the .vconf file creates weekly web reports and mails them to www.yourdomain.com@primushost.com, which is mapped to the webmaster@domain.com. In most cases, this configuration is sufficient, however, this file can be customized to suit your individual needs. In order for .vconf to override the default settings, it needs to placed at the root level of your home directory. Great, I want to make some changes... If you have never requested any changes to your emailed web reports, there is a good chance that you don't have a .vconf file. As I stated above, your web reports are being sent based on the default settings. A default .vconf file looks like this: daily no weekly yes monthly no minhits 5 allhits no recip When the reports are generated webmaster@yourdomain.com is automatically added to the 'recip field.' If you don't have a .vconf file you will need to create one. You can either do this remotely and ftp it to the server, or you can create the file on the local machine with the help of a text editor such as pico or vi. The format is the same regardless of how you create the file. What does it all mean? daily, weekly, and monthly refer to the frequency at which the reports are mailed to you. If you wish to receive your reports at one of the given frequencies, simply set the value to yes. For example, if you wish to receive reports daily and monthly, but not weekly, the first three lines of the file should look like this: daily yes weekly no monthly yes minhits is the number of hits necessary to generate a report. The default value is 5, but you may want to set it higher or lower depending on the amount of traffic your site receives. allhits When this value is set to 'no' it results in only the top 250 hits being reported. Yes will show all hits. If your site receives a large amount of traffic you may want to consider setting this to no as to avoid bulky emails being sent to you. recip The person(s) who will receive the reports. Multiple entries should be separated by commas as in the example below. recip webmaster@mydomain.com,boss@mydomain.com,develpment@mydomain.com Can I block other information from showing up in my emailed web report? The simple answer is no. Only the settings within the .vconf file can be configured. If you require a more customizable solution, PRIMUS provides you with a couple other options. We provide you access to the raw logs for you site, which you can download and the run through a third-party software package. The second option is to enable Graphical Web Reports for your site. This option is already available for most customers who's web sites are hosted on Landshark and Whale. If your site is on either of these machines and you do not currently have access to the Graphical Web Reports, please contact our Web Hosting Support Dept at 800-470-8786, and ask us to activate this feature for you.
