One of the most common questions PRIMUS personnel are asked is whether or not PRIMUS supports the use of Microsoft FrontPage. Typically, this question really means one of two things: "Do PRIMUS' servers support the use of FrontPage?" and "Does PRIMUS provide technical support for FrontPage?" The answer to both can best be summarized as "to an extent."

Do PRIMUS' servers support the use of FrontPage?

public_html

If you upload your files into a directory called public_html (as opposed to virtual_html) then your account is on one of the public shell servers; these servers are not enabled with FrontPage extensions. (Another way to determine this is if your web address is http://www.primushost.com/~<username>, as opposed to http://www.<yourdomain>.xxx.)

You can still use FrontPage to create basic HTML pages and to upload them to your site, but you will not be able to make full use of FrontPage's functionality, such as its forms. If you'd like to skip ahead and learn how to publish your pages to your public_html directory, click here.

virtual_html

If you upload your files into a directory called virtual_html then you are on one of the virtual host servers. Typically, in this instance, you will also own your own domain. There's a good chance that your website either already has the server extensions installed and, if not, you can have them installed upon request. Once you have the FrontPage extensions installed on your site, you'll be able to utilize the many features FrontPage offers, such as the ability to edit your files directly on the server. Does PRIMUS provide technical support for FrontPage?
