The following section explains how to connect your computer with Windows 3.1 to the PRIMUS servers using Trumpet Winsock TCP/IP connection:

Configure Trumpet Winsock for Your Computer
  • Click on the Program Manager.
  • Double-click on the Trumpet TCP/IP icon (located in the PRIMUS group).
  • Click on the "File" menu.
  • Click on "Setup"; you will see a screen listing the technical specifications for Trumpet's communications.

  • Set the SLIP Port to whatever your modem is on (1 for com1, 2 for com2, 3 for com3, and 4 for com4).
  • The Baud Rate window should read 19200 for a 14.4K modem or 57600 for a 28.8K or a 33.6K modem. CHANGE NO OTHER SETTINGS WITHOUT SPEAKING TO PRIMUS' TECHNICAL SUPPORT FIRST. All other settings are pre-configured.
  • Click on OK.
  • Trumpet will say you need to exit and re-run it to make the changes take effect: click on OK, but DO NOT EXIT.

Configure Trumpet Winsock for Your Account
  • Click on the "Dialer" menu.
  • Click on "setup.cmd".
  • Enter your local access number, then click on OK.
NOTE: If you have call waiting, enter "*70," and then the phone number (the comma is necessary). If you have a PBX, enter a "9," and then the phone number (the comma is necessary).
  • Enter your username with '@primushost.com' imediately following it, then click on OK (for example, user joeuser would be entered as joeuser@primushost.com).
  • Enter your password and click on OK (this will be displayed with "*" so be careful when you type it).
  • Exit Winsock by selecting the "File" menu, then click on "Exit."
  • This completes the Trumpet installation process.

Making the Connection
  • Run Trumpet TCP/IP by double-clicking on the icon.
  • Click on the "Dialer" menu, then choose "Login" (Trumpet will now dial the phone).

NOTE: If you see a message: 'at&c1&k3 ERROR' the first time you attempt to dial in then you will have to run the "login2.cmd script" from then on by choosing "Dialer/Login2" menu.

To do this, execute the following commands:

    1. Press the Esc key
    2. Choose the "Dialer" menu
    3. Select "Bye" to hang up the phone: wait 15 seconds for the phone to hang up
    4. Dial in again by clicking on the "Dialer" menu, then choosing "login2.cmd"

  • When the connection is successful Trumpet will print:
PPP mode selected. Will try to negotiate IP address
    Script completed
    PPP ENABLED
My IP address = 198.115.XXX.YYY (this part does not always show)

  • Your connection to the Internet is now active: minimize the window by clicking the down-pointing arrow at the top right of the Trumpet window

At this point your connection is active and you can use your Internet applications (mail, Web browser, news, etc.). The final instructions below explains how to disconnect from our service.

Disconnecting

The last step is to disconnect from the Internet by making Trumpet hang up the phone line

  • Close all Internet-based programs (Netscape, CuteFTP, WinVN, etc.)
  • Maximize Trumpet by double-clicking on the Trumpet icon at the bottom of your screen
  • Select the "Dialer" menu
  • Choose "Bye"
  • Trumpet will now hang up the phone --- remember to wait approximately 15 seconds for Trumpet to do this
