Netscape v4.x is the first version of Netscape to support IMAP and POP. Prior versions of Netscape only supported POP. The rest of this document will describe how to configure Netscape v4.x to use IMAP rather the POP to retrieve email.

First, start up Netscape. If you wish to verfiy which version of Netscape you are running, pull down the Help menu to either About Netscape or About Communicator item. Which item will be present depends on the version of Netscape. Once the About page loads, you will know which version of Netscape you are running.

Assuming you are running Netscape v4.0 or greater, now pull down the Edit menu to Preferences.
